Rangers — Grays

The Grays used a rare offensive weapon on Sunday to defeat the Rangers, 13-8.  Two home runs, a two-run shot by Kevin Brunner and a three-run shot by Mike Arnold, powered the Grays to their seventh victory of the year to maintain their hold on first place in the division.  The Grays’ 14 hit attack was led by Tom Hopkins and Mike Darwin, who each collected three hits on the day.  The Rangers offense was led by Mark Tyler’s three hits.  Brian Dostalek earned the victory on the mound for the Grays, pitching the first five innings.

Grays — Sand Crabs

In a thrilling game before a crowd of approximately eight fans, the Grays rallied in the late innings to squeak out a 13-12 victory over the Crabs in a battle for first place in the division.  The game saw multiple lead changes during the early innings and entered the seventh inning with the Crabs leading 9-7.  After the Crabs plated three runs in their half of the inning, the Grays scored two to pull within three at 12-9.  The Crabs failed to score in the top of the eighth, setting the stage for the Grays’ game-winning rally.  Greg Gaber led off the eight with a single and, with one out, Kevin Mack drew a walk.  Four Crabs errors over the next five hitters allowed the Grays to score four runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory.  The Crabs outhit the Grays, but defensive miscues were the story of the game for both teams, with fourteen total errors.  Mike Kaufman, Steve Hill, and Randy Gaber led the Crabs with three hits apiece. Glenn Griffin, Mike Darwin, and Mike Arnold led the Grays with two hits apiece.  Greg Gaber earned the win for the Grays and Mike Schoonveld took the loss for the Crabs.
