The Grays broke open a close game with an eight run fifth inning, holding off a late Crawfords’ rally for an 11-8 opening day victory.  The Grays banged out 15 hits, with the top four in the lineup collecting 9 of the hits.  Tom Hopkins led the Grays with three hits, followed by two hits apiece for Glenn Griffin, Greg Gaber, and Brian Dostalek.  Greg Gaber earned the victory on the mound, pitching the first six innings and allowing no earned runs.  Gaber scattered seven hits, striking out three and issuing no walks.  The Crawfords’ offense was led by Steve Kilberg and Jeff Adas, who both collected two hits.
