Recap

It was a bright and sunny day at Murphy Field in Waunakee when the intrepid Crawfords met up with the first place Sand Crabs.  This 9 inning epic battle was over in an hour forty-five.  Not one, but TWO complete game gems were turned in.

On the bump for the visiting Crawfords was Jeff Knight, and for the home Sand Crabs, the consummate professional, Randy Gaber.  It was a great game, a game that had many convinced that this is how old man baseball should go.  Tight defense, timely hitting, but the real story here is that two hurlers went the distance.  Nolan Ryan would be proud.

Gaber fanned 4, and gave away no free passes and allowed no earned runs.  He’s stingy like that.

Leaders at the plate for the Crabs were Troy Galston with a 4 for 4 day while amassing 3 stolen bases.  Jim Pliner knocked in 2 of the Crabs 6 runs, and Mike Wallace went 2 for 3. Andy Winn had two of the Crawfords’ 5 hits, with Rob Grether, Dave Cwik, and Dan Ketter collecting the rest.

A feast was had in the bleachers that day, with the finest meats and cheeses in the land.  Or so I am told.  There were some fine malted beverages consumed for thirst quenching and rehydrating purposes, or so I am told.  I have also heard that this week away from the friendly confines of EMLL has allowed Slice’s to stock up on Schlitz.

Happy Fathers’ Day to all, and to all a good night.
