Angels at Madison Muskies Baseball Club

The Angels clawed back from a four run deficit after five innings this past Sunday to capture their fourth championship in the past five seasons. Manager Gary Nevala, who had limited at bats throughout the season, called his own number by inserting himself in the nine hole to round out the Angels starting lineup. The move paid off; Gary sparked rallies in both the sixth and ninth innings with two key leadoff hits. Veteran infielder Doug Wolf tied the game with a huge two strike, two out, two RBI base hit to the right side in the 7th frame. The hit came after a controversial no-call on a check swing a few pitches prior.

On the mound, Jackson Schaum pitched 8 strong innings for the Angels before handing the ball over to Jeremy Johanski to secure the save, his 5th of the season. The Muskies had their fair share of baserunners throughout the day, but could only plate four runs overall. Many rallies fell one big hit away from breaking the game open: three separate innings ended with Muskies occupying both 2nd and 3rd base.
