It was a beautiful day for baseball at Jaycee park in Sauk for a battle between the 2 division leaders and the game lived up to all it’s promises.
With Randy Gaber and Jeff Adas on the hill it was a pitcher’s duel early on as both hurlers put up goose eggs for the first 3 frames before the Crabs scratched across a run on some well placed pops into the sun that fell in and an error in the top of the 4th.
The Craws responded with 2 in their half on hits by Adas, Goldschmidt and manager Dargan and another in the 5th after Winn singled and stole second to start the inning, eventually scoring on a hard shot single by Meyer to take a 3-1 lead.
The Craws then responded again with a 6 spot in the 6th on 7 hits to chase Crabs starter Gaber. They scratched across another in the 7th as Goldie and Dargan each got their 3rd hit of the contest, with Goldie scoring on an errant throw on his steal of 3rd.
The Crabs finally got to Craws ace Adas as he tired in the 9th. They racked up 4 hits including clutch doubles from Tim Mac and newcomer Dewey Walz, pushing across 5 runs and making the home team nervous. Jeff Knight came on for Adas and after hitting Pliner on his first pitch he was able to get a ground out to short and a tapper back to the mound to end the contest.
The Crawfords were paced by 3 hits each from Adas, Goldschmidt and Dargan as they racked up 19 overall.
Many beers were enjoyed after the game with the Crabs having a cookout with coolers of Schlitz at the park while the Craws enjoyed the Bier Garden at Vintage Brewery just down the road.
The Craws are looking forward to their week off to heal up some injuries.
